NEWS FLASH
Aug 15, 2000, OAKLAND, Calif.

Spedia.com, Inc., after meeting with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), announced today that it has initiated legal action against a group of Internet abusers from China.

Over half a million libelous SPAM e-mails were sent to Spedia and Spedia business partners in the past two days by a group of ex-Spedia members. Spedia immediately notified the San Francisco FBI office, which has now opened cases against the abusers. Internet service providers in the US have already been notified and asked to block the IP addresses of the e-mail attack network. Further actions will also be taken, including contacting the respective embassies, local authorities in China, and the abusers` employers.

Spedia, which is "notorious" among individuals conducting computerized crimes, is known for its stringent anti-hacking and anti-spam policies. As a result of this recent development, Spedia today announced plans to grow its vigilant anti-abuse units into a separate full-fledged department.

We take very seriously attempts to hurt our business and that of our partners. The involvement of the FBI should send a message to potential abusers that tampering with the integrity of our company`s service will result in severe legal actions.

The FBI has established comprehensive programs and initiatives dealing with computer crime. Detailed information is available at the FBI site (www.fbi.gov), especially on the National Infrastructure Protection Center page (www.nipc.gov). More information is also given at the home page of the FBI Washington Field Office Infrastructure Protection and Computer Intrusion Squad (www.fbi.gov/programs/ipcis/index.htm), responsible for investigating unauthorized intrusions into major computer networks.
